Cultural Literacy

I have included a list of cultural books provided to me throughout my time at McGill, as it included a vast array of books that could be implemented into the curriculum and hold pedagogical value.
As someone who deeply values literacy and its role in fostering a love of learning language, communication skills, and critical thinking skills, I love this list of books. It represents a wide array of voices, perspectives, experiences, and cultures. This list of books allows students to be able to see themselves in stories while learning about others as well.
By incorporating an inclusive selection of books in my classroom, I am enforcing a key component of my teaching philosophy: creating a loving, safe, and inclusive classroom where all students feel seen, heard, and respected.
Phonological Awareness
I have included a PowerPoint presentation that was presented to a class I took at McGill, where we had members of the English Montreal School Board visit us and do a hands-on learning experience relating to phonological awareness. This PowerPoint included step-by-step ways and tools to improve and introduce key components to get students learning the early stages of literary and language development.
This presentation deepened my understanding of the importance of phonological awareness as a core foundational skill in literacy and what strategies are the most effective in supporting students' growth and learning processes.
Furthermore, this presentation reinforced my value of early literacy in kindergarten and preschool classrooms and its importance in the overall growth of the social, emotional, and language developmental areas. This presentation also enforces the fact that I value learning from other professionals and educators, as I am always learning something new and open to implementing new ideas into my teaching.
LEARN Quebec
I had the privilege of having someone from LEARN Quebec visit a few of my classrooms while at McGill and was provided with a list of helpful links to support my future teaching endeavours.
These provided resources reflect my commitment to providing engaging, inclusive, hands-on, and age-appropriate learning experiences for students. The resources included in this list reinforce my dedication to finding and using reliable and inclusive links to support pedagogical skills and adapt for different learning styles.
These tools allow me to support my students foster an understanding of numeracy, curiousity, creativity, science, and social development.

STEAM Literacy
I have included a list of STEAM (science, technology, engenerring, art, and math) books provided to me while at McGill, as it included a comprehensive list of books that could be implemented into lesons and hold pedagogical value.
I personally love this list of books, as it allows for a creative appraoch to storyteling in the classroom than traditional ELA books. As many of these books refer to real-world scenarios, they are great way to bring in cross-curricular connections, introduce diverse characters, and encourage innovation.
This list reflects my belief in the importance of integrating literature into all areas of the curriculum and using storytelling as a bridge to deeper understanding.
